Okay, here is something that immediately caught our attention: The Four Seasons NYC has a luxe spa treatment called “Profound Crystal Healing Experience” by healer Rashia Bell. Bell explains that “crystals are really just a good way to tap into your intuition.” After this sparked curiosity, of course we looked into similar findings around our great city. You can head to Kansas City Wellness Club for an Energy Healing (a healing with Intuitives to restore balance and energy flow with holistic modalities such as healing crystals and Reiki). You can head to The Laya Center (founded by Ex-Chiefs player Joe May and his wife Toyia) for ancient African healing methods with ayurvedic techniques. The center was founded after May was determined to deny opioids for career-related pain and wanted to pursue a holistic journey. Toyia herself, offers an introductory Energy Consultation that will help identify blocked chakras, clear these blocked chakras and use crystal healing.

Of course, you can try crystal healing at home too! Need a 101? We researched via Vogue and Amber the Alchemist. Start with rose quartz. Most people do associate rose quartz with romantic love but Amber says it’s actually a universal love stone. Rose quartz is said to open your heart chakra to self love, romantic connections, family etc. She also recommends Black Tourmaline. It’s a stone for protection in all forms. It is said to kill low vibration energy and as a hater-blocker, according to Amber. She recommends Amethyst as a go-to for introduction to crystals. It is supposed to have a calming energy and to encourage a full night’s sleep. Citrine is said to be helpful for financial prosperity and to keep a mild, motivated vibe. The other thing to note is that it’s important to cleanse your crystals. Amber recommends using smoke (via incense, camphor or cedar) by smudging them or burying them in salt or salt water to dispel negative energies (though some crystals should NOT be put in salt water as they are too soft, generally those ending in -ite). Beyoncé wasn’t wrong in her crystal mention in her “Black Parade” track. You can charge your crystals in the moon or sunlight. You can also bury them in the ground. This is said to reenergize the natural vibrations in this earthly source.

It should be noted we hold rookie status when it comes to healing crystals. Our lovely founder, Lauren Merriman, has been working with crystals for some time now. See below for our interview with Lauren as we explore the world of crystals and the practitioners who use them. We had so much fun digging up some magical things about crystals. Check out local crystal shops for your healing purposes: Oracle, AQUARIUS, White Light Bookstore and Spectrum A New Age Shop.

THE NELLE X LAUREN MERRIMAN: On Crystal Healing

When did you fall in love with the magic of crystals?

I first realized the potential of their energy through watching my Aunt Mona work with them. The first time I really remember seeing them work to heal was when she was healing my stepmom’s pulled muscle. I remember watching her place a medium sized stone on her point of pain. Then, I remember touching her after. She said she could feel the heat from the stone, it was so warm. Something clicked inside me right then, and I knew it was a healing conductor of some kind.

How do you choose your crystals?

Intuitively. If I’m drawn to a crystal and I’m not sure what it is or what its healing properties are, I look it up and I’m always tickled that my intuition seems to know exactly what I need. It’s happened time and again, and it’s beautiful every time.

Does it matter where you buy your crystals?

To me it does matter, just like it matters where I source my other practitioner tool. As sage and Palo Santo become harder and harder to come by, the trendier clearing seems to become. Same with stones. You want to source from companies that buy from miners with clean and safe mining practices. I usually buy my bigger stones when I’m at the gem show in Tucson each winter. That way I can ask questions. It’s important to me to buy from somewhere that practices sustainable sourcing.

How many crystals do you own?

Dozens.

Is there one crystal you own that is most important in your life?

My large quarts tower with rose quarts veins. It sounds far fetched, but it keeps my husband from having nightmares. It also keeps the overall romantic vibes alive in our bedroom.

Why do you think people gravitate towards crystals?

Various reasons — sometimes they’re looking for something different, or they’re aware they have metaphysical powers and want to utilize them. They may want to use them as practitioner tools or to attract love or for manifestation or shadow work, etc. There are so many reasons to work with and live with crystals.

Is there ever a time to get rid of a crystal you own?

No. Unless you feel called to gift it. If it’s giving you bad vibes, then clean it. A full moon bath is by far the most eco-conscious way of doing that. The ladies in my family fully encourage you to drink your own moon water after a full moon bath. It’s said to fill your soul with the crystal and moon charged water. My Aunt Mona says the negative energy water will clean out the negative energy in your internal system. A couple of years ago I hosted a full moon crystal cleaning workshop at Soho House Chicago. One of the most special and beautiful experiences was waking up the next morning and meeting all of my guests on the rooftop. We toasted one another with our moon water, and it felt like a sacred and magical bonding moment.
